Fill a mixing glass two-thirds full with ice cubes to chill the glass.

Pour in the Scotch whisky or bourbon, followed by the amaretto.

Stir the mixture gently with a long-handled bar spoon until well-chilled, about 30 seconds.

Strain the chilled cocktail into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
