At Twist and Toast H.Q., we’re always thinking about, experimenting with, and testing out enticing cocktail and mocktail recipes that’ll keep you coming back again and again. But how do we keep our standards consistently high? And what goes on behind the scenes? This policy will answer those questions and more, as we walk you through our checks, balances, and frameworks that ensure each icy sip will be as delicious as the last.
Recipe Development & Testing
Nobody wants a recipe that doesn’t work out, especially if you’ve invested in some top-shelf spirits or spent some time squeezing your own fruit juice to make it! We’ve all been there and it can be quite disheartening. That’s why we’ve got a highly-skilled team in place to make sure each new drink recipe we publish will work out just as intended. And for that, testing is crucial.
The Ideas Phase: Every new recipe starts with an idea from one of our talented team. Whether it’s reviving an old classic or adding a new twist on a well-known sipper, this idea is the first step before the hands-on work begins.
Testing Time: Next, our professional recipe developer takes that initial concept and ensures the proportions and flavors will work. The draft recipe gets sent out to be tested by another member of the team, using a classic home bar setup, with standard equipment and easily-accessible ingredients just like you’d find in your local grocery store or liquor store. If something’s not quite right, we go back to the drawing board. If the recipe checks all the boxes, then it’s on to the final stage.
Photo Time: Once approved, it’s time for our new drink to get the paparazzi treatment. We always take our own photos and never use stock photography or images generated by AI. What we stirred, shook, and poured in the studio is exactly what the recipe called for.
Content Process
When discussing cocktail history, ingredient origins, or cultural context, we consult reputable sources such as published cocktail books, brand histories, bartender interviews, official producer materials, and established food and drink publications. Where appropriate, we cite or link to our sources.
Our Writing & AI Usage Policy
While AI continues to develop at lightning speed, we remain committed to human creativity, real stories, and genuine connection. Every single one of our posts and stories is written by a human being—usually Steve!—and we add their name and photo to each piece, to add that much-needed credibility. We also include a short biography for each contributor so you can get a sense of who they are and how their journey into the world of cocktails has taken shape.
We only use Artificial Intelligence tools to assist with spell-checking, consistency, and highlighting any minor oversights before the editing process begins. We do not use AI recipes, AI-generated writing, or AI imagery. All final decisions, testing, writing, photography, and publishing are handled by humans.
Responsible Drinking & Nutrition Information
Twist and Toast is intended for readers of legal drinking age. We encourage responsible consumption, never promote excessive drinking, and provide mocktail alternatives where appropriate.
At the bottom of each recipe, you’ll see an estimate for the drink’s calorie count and carb count. This is purely for informational and instructional purposes and these estimates are just a guide. Remember, many factors, such as ingredient freshness, brands of products used, and your accuracy when measuring, will all influence the actual nutritional value. We won’t ever give health advice.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
All different races, religions, backgrounds, and levels of cocktail-making ability are welcome to take a seat at the Twist & Toast bar. We’re committed to using welcoming and inclusive language to promote tolerance and respect, and to generate a friendly atmosphere for all. When we publish recipes for drinks from outside the U.S. (think Italian Negronis or Mexican Palomas), we strive to present those creations with appreciation, respect, and fair attribution. We research their origins and credit the original inventors or traditional processes where applicable.
Reader Interaction & Community Guidelines
If you have any questions, constructive criticism, or recipe feedback for us, please feel free to send us a message. We’re always open to hearing from our readers. If you choose to leave a star rating for one of our recipes, we only ask that it truly reflects your experience making this drink. All reviews on our site are genuine; we never purchase or manipulate reviews. Twist & Toast also reserves the right to remove comments that contain hateful or inflammatory speech, personal attacks, spam, or misinformation.
Occasionally, we may partner with brands, though they’ll only ever be brands we love and never brands whose ethics clash with our own. While payments from brands may guarantee placement, reviews will remain impartial.
Some pages may contain affiliate links. If you buy through those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not affect our recipe testing or recommendations.
Corrections & Updates
We are human, and as hard as we try, there’s always a chance a mistake may slip through the cracks (it happens to the best of us!) If a reader identifies an issue with one of our recipes (like a missing ingredient quantity), we prioritize fixing it right away. Older posts are updated regularly to improve clarity and answer common reader questions. When a post has been amended, the “Updated” date on the page will reflect this.
