You might find the megastar’s tasty take on the classic Cosmo deliciously dizzying, and it could turn you into a loyal Swiftie, too.
You’ve heard of Taylor Swift, right?
And now that the incredulous screaming and yelling directed at my ridiculous question has died down, allow me to rephrase my opening sentence… We all know who Taylor Swift is. Even if you don’t listen to or follow her music, you can’t escape the unstoppable phenomenon that she has turned into these past two decades. I’m a Motorhead fan myself, so I’m able to recognize greatness when I see it. If 50,000,000 Elvis fans can’t be wrong, the Swifties of the world most assuredly have the megastar sitting on top of it.
When an artist is as influential and popular as Taylor is – yes, we’re on a first-name basis, why not? – every little thing she does, says, wears, eats or drinks is put under a microscope. Trends are set just by her being herself. Imagine being under that kind of pressure and scrutiny. I’m not sure I’d enjoy walking around the corner to order a martini for Happy Hour, and being mobbed by hundreds of complete strangers and paparazzi, all clamoring to know what vermouth I’ll be using. In reality, nobody has ever asked me that. (It’s Dolin, by the way.)
But people always want to know what Taylor Swift is drinking. Back in September of 2023, the musician was spotted partying with friends at Casino, a trendy establishment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She was noted for enjoying some Cosmopolitans… but with a twist. Her take on the recipe swapped the limes for lemons and added peach schnapps to the mix. Later in April, while at Easy’s Cocktail Lounge in Las Vegas, the singer was seen ordering the same cocktails, which she began to call “Tay-Tinis”.
If it’s good enough for Taylor Swift, it’s good enough for the rest of us. Easy’s capitalized on the singer’s own libation creation and soon began to list the drink on their menu. You don’t have to go to Sin City to enjoy one, because we’ll be making some right here at home tonight. So sit back, pop on your copy of The Tortured Poets Department and relax with a few Tay-Tinis. Your love for this cocktail won’t be burning red, but golden.
What is a Cosmopolitan?
Fans of the show Sex and the City know all about the Cosmo. In case you’re not one of them, allow me to give you the quick rundown. The ever-popular cocktail is a crowd-pleaser due to its slightly sweet and tart flavor profile. You shake these babies up with vodka, triple sec, cranberry and lime juice. The Tay-Tini swaps the lime for lemons and adds peach schnapps for some extra fruitiness. It could also be called a Cosmopolitan (Taylor’s Version).
What is the Best Vodka to Use in a Tay-Tini Cocktail?
You’ll want a crisp, smooth and clean-tasting vodka for your Tay-Tini. You don’t have to spend a lot of money for a nice top-shelf bottle, either. A good vodka will meld seamlessly with the other flavors, even accentuating them. I usually go with a Polish rye, or a Japanese Coffey distilled version. Using the perfect spirit will give you a balanced and unforgettable experience. You’ll definitely want to get back together with this cocktail.
