Have a rich and refreshing experience when you sip on a Gin and Ginger Beer.

I miss the summer already, and it still technically isn’t over. The last few days at my family’s home on the East Coast were a little bittersweet, as they always are. The weather has been getting chillier each year, so we’ve been missing out on some much missed pool time. When we first moved to that house, it was always humid and sweltering during the summer months, well past Labor Day even. Night swims were always a must, and I’d often just lounge in the water staring up at the fireflies and hoping the swooping bats didn’t mistake my nose for something they could eat. The bats are still doing their thing these days, but the fireflies have been less and less.

Here in Los Angeles, though, it’s almost 90 degrees and hot as ever. The city of endlessly beautiful weather, despite getting chilly in the wintertime, always helps stave off my post-summertime blues by being hot for a while longer. Plus, there are the beaches and Tiki bars to keep all of us out here awash in sunny, warm vibes.

But at home, especially after being gone for a stretch, my liquor cabinet is a little light. I had gin and ginger beer, and that was it. Being not one to complain, and knowing this combination could totally work, I mixed them together. I didn’t invent tonight’s concoction, but I’m glad I stumbled upon it.

It takes the sting out of knowing that next summer is a year away…

What is the best gin to use in a Gin and Ginger Beer?

You can have some fun with this simple and tasty mixture by using a variety of different gins. Not all at once of course, and please drink in moderation if you have more than a handful of styles on hand. I used a Hendrick’s Oasium desert botanical infused gin with my drink. This spirit also has some fruit infusions, resulting in a bright and colorful flavor that blends nicely with the spicy and rich taste of the ginger beer.
