Celebrate those special moments in your life with the sweet and creamy Golden Cadillac.

Los Angeles can feel pretty overwhelming sometimes. It’s just like any other big city, only more so. Manhattan can feel very scrunched up, with all those buildings and skyscrapers huddled together and pointing at the heavens. L.A. is spread out, with little pockets of a metropolis here and there to remind you that this is one of the world’s unofficial capitals. And sometimes the city can feel so big, and with traffic causing even the shortest of trips to take forever, you sometimes forget that the state of California itself is magnificently massive. And every corner has its own stories to tell.
One of these tales comes from the town of El Dorado in Northern California, where tonight’s cocktail was born. In 1952, a young couple found themselves at a bar called Poor Red’s, eager to celebrate their new engagement. The bartender was a fella by the name of Frank Klein, who was more than happy to craft a brand new libation in honor of his excited and in-love patrons.
Klein combined crème de cacao, heavy cream and Galliano liqueur together, shaken over ice and served straight up. The result was a sun-colored, frothy and sweet experience not unlike a Brandy Alexander. Met with enthusiastic praise, the soon-to-be newlyweds and the barkeep wondered what this tasty tipple should be called. Since the lovers pulled up in a beautiful, golden Caddy, that’s what they decided to christen it.
With its creamy texture and light potency, the Golden Cadillac is a perfect after-dinner digestif, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or not. But let’s be honest, this cocktail makes any moment a special one.
What Is Galliano?
Galliano is a sweet and golden-colored Italian liqueur. First made in 1896 by Arturo Vaccari, a distiller from Livorno, Italy, the herbal and spiced spirit was named for Italian war hero Giuseppe Galliano. With notes of anise, juniper and vanilla, the robust flavor the Galliano provides reminds some folks of sambuca, and became a huge hit during the 1970s.
What Is The Best Alcohol To Use In A Golden Cadillac?
Galliano is easy enough to find at your local liquor or grocery store, and won’t break the bank either. The same with crème de cacao, which is a chocolate liqueur that comes in both dark and white varieties. DeKuyper and Tempus Fugit are just a couple of the great brands you can choose from.

Ingredients
- 1 ounce Galliano liqueur
- 1 ounce white crème de cacao
- 1 ounce heavy cream
- Grated nutmeg or chocolate shavings for garnish, optional
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the Galliano liqueur, white crème de cacao, and heavy cream.

- Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker feels cold, about 15 seconds.
