Make your next brunch a hearty one with the powerful and potent Manmosa.

He was a wiry little fella, whose oversized eyeglasses made his head look extra small. When he walked into this particular roadside diner one random Sunday morning for breakfast, every single trucker in the place stopped slurping up their grits and coffee to take a gander. Was he a college student, or some scientist or laboratory intern? Were they filming a new Revenge of the Nerds movie somewhere nearby? All of the flannel-clad 18-wheeler pilots wondered what the deal was, elbowing each other as the Jerry Lewis-lookalike walked up to the counter, pocket-protector and all.

What would this weenie order, many of the regulars asked each other. A bowl of Fruity Pebbles, perhaps? Or maybe a soft-boiled egg and some chocolate milk. They chuckled to each other, smirking and giggling behind their bottomless cups of coffee and stacks of flapjacks.

With all the confidence of the sexiest person alive, this slight individual politely requested a Manmosa… and everyone in the diner fell silent again. This establishment had its fair share of spirits and booze, but before noon on a Sunday? Everyone shot each other glances, suggesting this stranger had impressed them.

Before long, every long-haul driver in the place was sitting with their new spectacled friend, a Manmosa in every hand. The mixture of beer, vodka and orange juice was the perfect way to wash down a hearty breakfast, especially on a lazy day off after a long week of flying the highways.

And the nerdy stranger? He came back every Sunday, enjoyed a few Manmosas, then left… and no one knew his name.

What is the best alcohol to use in a Manmosa?

So what exactly makes this beverage a “manly” one? The alcohol used in today’s concoction is vodka and light beer. The pairing of some suds with a crisp and clean spirit, like a Stoli, Smirnoff, SKYY—or my favorite, Chopin—will add some extra kick to each sip of the orange-flavored Manmosa. For the beer, we recommend a golden-hued amber lager or pale ale. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “lite” brew, but one that will mix nicely with the other ingredients. Dark beers are too robust and malty, so stick with brighter oat sodas.

What glassware and garnish are used?

You’ll want a chilled highball glass filled with ice to imbibe your Manmosa out of. Garnish with an orange wheel or wedge before sipping.

Is this beverage exclusively for men?

Not at all. The name Manmosa is just a cheeky, satirical play on the more elegant and sophisticated Mimosa cocktail. Anyone can enjoy the Manmosa, if that’s what they’re in the mood for.

The weekend is here once again, and you’re thinking about what to give your friends when they come over for brunch. Of course, you can serve a few rounds of Mimosas, but the Manmosa has piqued your interest in other late-morning tipples.
