Sip on a bubbly, tart, and strong tipple with the Vodka Champagne cocktail.

My father said to me recently, “For a poor man, you have expensive taste.” And while he said it whilst shaking his head in bemused dismay, I agree with him wholeheartedly. I am by no means rich or well-to-do by any stretch of the imagination. But I work hard, and when the time comes to enjoy a cocktail, or a night out at a restaurant, or a pair of shoes or a watch, I splash out. There’s a lot to be said about the finer things in life, and you do get what you pay for. I’m not spending a fortune, no, but I’m not going for the cheapest either. In the case of alcohol, I save up and purchase a very top-shelf spirit, which will, in turn, keep me from imbibing it too quickly. I don’t remember the last time I had a bad hangover, either.

One thing I don’t do too often, though, is mix a drink using a fairly pricey champagne. Prosecco and sparkling wine, of course. And with some of the finest and most popular examples of those being quite cost-effective, most folks never think twice about using them as a tipple topper, especially in some of the more well-known and famous concoctions that call for it, like the classic French 75.

Tonight’s cocktail is called the Vodka Champagne, and it is basically a French 75 that uses vodka in place of the gin. The drink also uses the stalwart Vodka Sour build to start, and finishes off with some bubbly, resulting in a tart and sweet boozy treat. Are you and yours dressed to the nines with no plans and nowhere to go?

A few Vodka Champagnes will keep the night going.

What is the best alcohol to use in a Vodka Champagne Cocktail?

A clean, crisp and balanced vodka is always the finer choice when finding one to mix a cocktail with, especially tonight’s drink. A higher-end spirit like a Belvedere, Chopin or Grey Goose is an excellent base for this recipe, and will meld and assimilate with the lemon juice and sugar without disappearing within or masking them either. For the bubbly, an extra dry brut bottle of either champagne, prosecco or cava will serve this cocktail well, being neither too sweet or fruity, working in a similar vein to the vodka alongside the other elements.

Other cocktails similar to the Vodka Champagne

If you have found yourself with cases upon cases of fine champagne in your cellar, I would first like to ask if you need to get rid of any. Then I would ask what other cocktails and mixtures you plan on crafting with them. And if you’re unsure what to make, here are a few you can try out.

  • Strawberry Champagne – A sparkling and magically sweet treat to sip on.
  • Champagne Cocktail – A sophisticated and elegant sipper, suitable to toast at any heightened occasion.
  • Champagne Jell-O Shots – Here’s a jiggly and unforgettable way to ring in the New Year.
  • Champagne Punch – Having a large group come over later? Serve them this fizzy and fun elixir.
