Whenever the clock strikes and it’s time for tea, make yours a Whiskey Tea.

Tea was enjoyed quite frequently in my family’s house when I was growing up, but in the traditional sense of having “tea time”. My Irish grandmother would do the old-school “tea and toast” on a regular basis, while my mom enjoyed a cup during the day, and maybe one in the evening. When we were sick, naturally we’d be given a hot mug with honey and lemon to soothe us. Sometimes, I’ll brew a pot and spend some time sipping and reading. The collection of different blends and bags we have in the cupboard is quite impressive, and there seems to be something for every mood and time of the day.

Today’s recipe takes the relaxing and comforting routine of sitting with a cuppa and adds a little something extra to the mix… whiskey. The Whiskey Tea is aptly named because it is exactly that, a beautifully bitter black tea mixed with a strong and powerful dram, where the notes and spices from both meld together in a harmonious way. Almost as if it were meant to be.

And this mixture isn’t just a matter of stirring booze in with some Tetley. There’s also the addition of simple syrup and a little lemon juice to add some tart, citrusy sweetness to every piping hot drop.

What Is The Best Whiskey To Use In A Whiskey Tea?

Here’s where the sky’s the limit, in terms of what the “best” whiskey is to craft this drink with. Whatever you prefer, whichever your favorite dram is, that’s what you’ll want to use when mixing this drink. A classic bottle of Jack, some Jameson or High West rye whiskey will make fine choices, bringing a little sweetness, buttery texture or smooth peppery spice, respectively.
