With a mellow color and citrus flavor, the slightly bitter Aperol Cosmopolitan is your new sophisticated friend.

When heartache hits, it can come on quick. Sometimes you see it from miles away, coming for you like a giant submarine bursting through a shopping mall. There’s no way to deny what you’re seeing, and the terrifying inexplicable-ness of it all can stop you in your tracks.
It’s a Friday night, too, and the worst day of the week to be stood up. You had this date all planned out; it was going to be perfect. A horse and buggy ride through the park, followed by dinner at a tapas bar and then listening to a jazz band covering Black Sabbath songs for dessert. Who wouldn’t want that perfect night for themselves? Well, you found out the hard way. And the barkeep at the dark and moody cocktail lounge you’ve hunkered down in has noticed.
A coupe is slid across the surface of the bar, landing in front of you. Inside, a light and orange-looking libation, with notes of wonderfully sour citrus hitting your nose. With a nod and a smile, the bartender tells you this Aperol Cosmopolitan is on the house. You take a grateful sip, letting the slight bitter flavor calm your nerves, keeping you from becoming bitter.
That jerk that left you high and dry, they don’t know what they’re missing. And besides… you get to keep these Aperol Cosmos to yourself.
What Is The Best Vodka To Use In An Aperol Cosmopolitan?
There are two routes you can go in regard to the vodka that you choose to make your Aperol Cosmopolitan with. The one I usually choose is a rye or wheat distilled unflavored vodka, which allows the other flavors to meld with the spirit, resulting in a balanced and crisp sipping experience. You can also choose a citron or Absolut Mandarin variety, bringing a little more tang to your mixture.

CAN YOU MAKE THIS COCKTAIL WITH CAMPARI INSTEAD OF APEROL?
Usually, folks use Aperol in place of Campari, as they find the red liqueur too intense and bitter tasting. Cosmos are popular because of their light and sweet flavor, so using Campari in this recipe will be an interesting experiment for sure. Let us know in the comments if you’ve tried this.
