Delight your friends with these boozy, candy-inspired Halloween Jell-O Shots—they will be a real treat at your festive bash!

Do you want to be everyone’s favorite house this Halloween? You don’t need expensive blow-up pumpkins or the hassle of transforming your front yard into a spooky scene. All you need are these delicious Halloween Jell-O Shots! That’s precisely what one of my neighbors did this year, so now even parents were excited to visit their block while trick-or-treating.

While the exact origin of Halloween Jell-O Shots is unclear, supposedly the original Jell-O Shot was invented in the 1950s when Tom Lehrer snuck them into a Christmas party at his naval base, where alcohol was prohibited. These Halloween Jell-O shots are a step above your typical frat party experience. They are layered with lemon and orange Jell-O and topped with whipped cream, resembling candy corn while offering much more flavor. You will have a specialty cocktail to impress your guests and create an aesthetically pleasing and festive display for your party or to hand out to adult trick-or-treaters.

Our Halloween Jell-O Shots do not taste like candy corn, but that is the look we’re going for. They are citrus-flavored and topped with whipped cream, yum! This is an excellent choice for those who don’t particularly enjoy the taste of alcohol since it is masked by these bold flavors.

Jell-O Shots For All Occasions

Halloween Jell-O Shots are fantastic because they are festive, playful, tasty, and ideal for any holiday! This color scheme works perfectly as a treat for Thanksgiving and any autumn gathering. Also, use this recipe to layer other cheerful colors for any occasion. Red and blue Jell-O topped with whipped cream is a classic for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Try pink and red for Valentine’s Day or your Galentine’s party, and red and green for Christmas! Of course, change the sprinkles accordingly.

What Is The Best Alcohol To Use In Halloween Jell-O Shots?

Make your Halloween Jell-O shots with a mid-level vodka, like Tito’s, Absolut, or Stoli. Even though the flavor of Jell-O may conceal the alcohol, using a super cheap vodka is not the way to go. You will be able to feel and taste that burn that comes with it and it will likely have a horrible aftertaste. On the other hand, you also don’t want to overspend on a top-shelf vodka; that would be a waste. Additionally, you can use flavored vodka. The flavors in the lemon and orange Jell-O can be enhanced with a citrus vodka, like Absolut Citron, or go for something sweeter with Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka.

What glassware and garnish are used?

Halloween Jell-O Shots are served in classic shot glasses, topped with whipped cream and festive sprinkles. You can also use disposable plastic soufflé cups if you are handing them out to adult trick-or-treaters.

Can I use a different kind of alcohol?

Yes! If vodka is not your thing, you can use white rum. I think Malibu would go perfectly with these, or even tequila. I would shy away from any dark liquor though.
