Spicy, strong and with a robust kick, the Bloody Caesar might remind you of another famous drink, with a unique flavor all its own.

When I went to college, I spent four years at a prestigious and well-respected acting conservatory. With alumni like Stanley Tucci and Wesley Snipes, it felt that I was in good company, even if I could never live up to the legends that signed their names all over our dressing rooms backstage before they graduated. We schooled in the classics… Williams, Shepard, Ibsen, Chekhov—Anton, not Pavel—and of course, the Upstart Crow himself, William Shakespeare.
In high school I had to read Julius Caesar, which despite being assigned reading, I really enjoyed. Once I was into my conservatory training a few years later, my entire company had been assigned numerous monologues from the play. For my own part, I had delved into the mindset of the Emperor’s friend and soon to be murderer, Brutus. “It must be by his death…”, and soon the title character became what would eventually be the inspiration for tonight’s cocktail… a Bloody Caesar.
Originating from Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1969, the drink is the close cousin of the Bloody Mary. Featuring Tabasco, Worcestershire and vodka, the fiery concoction was invented by Walter Chell and over the years became recognized as the Great White North’s national cocktail.
You don’t need to take a trip to Canada, or even the Globe Theatre, to enjoy this spicy tipple. Just take a walk to your local grocery and liquor stores to grab what you need, and have a few Bloody Caesars while watching performances of the Royal Shakespeare Company on television. Or SCTV.
What Is The Best Vodka To Use In A Bloody Caesar?
With the savory and spicy flavors present in this full-bodied drink, an unflavored vodka is the best choice for the spirit base. Using something like a cupcake- or vanilla-flavored vodka might clash with the other notes. That said, you’re welcome to try if you’re curious, and let us know in the comments how it is. We might be missing out on something incredible.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND A BLOODY MARY?
The main difference between these two drinks is the use of tomato juice in the Mary, and Clamato juice in the Caesar.
