Turn your next cocktail into a decadent and dessert-like dram with the creamy and smooth Chocolate Espresso Martini.

The Espresso Martini will probably never cease being a trendy or fashionable cocktail. It has been so popular in recent years that some might even think it was a fairly recent creation, a contemporary concoction that is destined to become a classic of the craft. And while all these things are arguably true about this beverage’s reputation, the recipe itself has been around for almost forty years.
Back in the 1980s, bartender Dick Bradsell was working at Fred’s Club in London, when one fortuitous day a harried and tired runway model had stormed in, demanding that he make her a drink that will “wake her up and fuck her up”. While the identity of this woman has been lost to time, Bradsell’s eventual creation, originally called a Vodka Espresso, wound up becoming a part of history.
Tonight’s recipe is a delicious and rich riff on the classic ‘Tini-inspired cocktail from 1980s London, the Chocolate Espresso Martini. With the addition of chocolate liqueur and some cream, this potent dessert-like drink will satisfy any craving your sweet tooth might have.
And be prepared to have everyone around you ask what you’re drinking. And if you’re serving this cocktail at a party, make sure you have enough to go around.
What Is The Best Alcohol To Use In A Chocolate Espresso Martini?
You’ll need a few different spirits to get the rich and biting flavors present in a balanced and smooth Chocolate Espresso Martini. For starters, we recommend picking up a vanilla-flavored vodka, which is simple enough to find at your grocery or liquor store. For the coffee liqueur, Kahlúa is a reliable stalwart, but Mr. Black cold brew liqueur is also a potent choice, and many of the bars in my neighborhood swear by it. There are a lot of different types of chocolate liqueurs you can choose from, with Godiva being one of the more common brands available.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces vodka vanilla flavored if desired
- 1 ounce coffee liqueur like Kahlúa
- 1 ounce chocolate liqueur
- 1 ounce freshly brewed espresso cooled
- 1/2 ounce light cream

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?
Chill a martini glass or cocktail coupe in your freezer for up to 30 minutes. Once it’s ice cold, pour your drink in and garnish the top with a dusting of cocoa powder and a few coffee beans.
IS THIS DRINK CONSIDERED AN AUTHENTIC MARTINI?
No. While it is definitely inspired by the elegant and strong classic, an “official” martini will either be made with Gin and vermouth, or Vodka and vermouth.
