Let your inner child go wild with a few Tootsie Roll Shots tonight.

“Whatever it is I think I see, becomes a Tootsie Roll to me.”

Just about every kid who grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons while munching on a big bowl of colorful cereal will probably recognize that line from above. In between episodes of our favorite animated shows, we’d be bombarded with toy commercials, spots for other programs and of course, candy. The classic advertisement where a small child asks Mr. Owl how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop is tattooed on every middle-aged person’s brain, along with the famous and catchy jingle. Oh, and according to Mr. Owl, it’s three licks.

Tonight’s drink takes its inspiration from this classic chocolatey confection. The Tootsie Roll Shot is simple, easy to make and will have your friends coming back and asking if you could make another round for everyone. With only two ingredients that go into this recipe, you’ll be able to oblige any request for more of this tasty little shooter. And the best part about them, outside of being easy to whip up, is that this beverage tastes just like a Tootsie Roll.

An even mixture of orange juice and coffee liqueur, one taste is all it will take to remind you that an actual Tootsie Roll does indeed have a subtle orange tinge to it, sitting nicely amongst the bitter, dark chocolate flavor.

The Tootsie Roll Shot won’t rip your fillings out, too, which makes me happy.

What Is The Best Liqueur To Use In A Tootsie Roll Shot?

The only alcohol you’ll need to make the sweet-tasting Tootsie Roll Shot is a potent and biting coffee liqueur. The most well-known brand, and the easiest one to find while you’re out shopping, is, of course, the Mexican produced Kahlúa. If you’d like to try something different, Mr. Black makes a fantastic cold brew coffee liqueur that’s made with Australian wheat vodka. Or, if you’re feeling crafty, try your hand at making your own homemade version with our recipe.

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?

Grab a standard shot glass and chill it in your freezer for around 30 minutes. This will make your shooter extra cold and smooth. Pop an actual Tootsie Roll in for garnish if you wish.

CAN YOU MAKE THIS AS A NON-ALCOHOLIC SHOT?

You can if you like. Just replace the coffee liqueur with freshly brewed and chilled java.

Other Shots Worth Trying

We have a nice variety of memorable and tasty shot recipes here at Twist & Toast. If you’re planning on throwing a party and want something fun to serve, some of the shooters we have listed here will not only please the crowd but also add something special to the night. Try some of these little elixirs the next time you’re having friends over.

  • Wet Pussy Shot – Sounds dirty, but this vodka and peach schnapps shot is very tasty.
  • Skittles Shot – Another candy-inspired mini-libation that won’t soon be forgotten.
  • Baby Guinness Shot – Looks like a beer, and goes down smooth.
  • Pickle Shot – You might not know this, but vodka and pickle juice are a perfect match.
