Get a good buzz going by drinking some Dirty Bong Water… the cocktail!
At some point in our lives, and I’m assuming that we’ve all survived high school and college, we knew someone that wound up guzzling actual dirty bong water. And if that someone was you… First, eww. Second, why? I thankfully never had the pleasure of imbibing whatever was leftover at the bottom of The Grimace – the name of a purple bong I once knew – but I did witness somebody who did. Figuratively speaking, it ended in fire. Literally speaking, it ended in regurgitation.
The only reason I bring this up is because tonight’s cocktail is coincidentally called a Dirty Bong Water. Why would someone name something you’re supposed to drink after something you should never drink? That’s a good question. Definitely one to ponder after a few Dirty Bong Waters.
The obvious reason is the way it looks. Mixing spiced rum with raspberry liqueur, blue curaçao, and amaretto along with lemon and lime juice will give you a tart, sweet and tangy treat. The appearance the combination gives your beverage honestly looks like the water at the bottom of a heavily used bong. If one is near, and you have this cocktail handy, don’t confuse the two. Especially if you’ve been taking rips off of both. And let’s say you’ve been doing that… I suggest the 1981 movie Heavy Metal to go along with the evening. Or The Spy Who Loved Me. Maybe both.
What is the Best Alcohol to Use in a Dirty Bong Water?
There are a few different kinds of alcohol used in this drink. When picking any brand of spirit to try a new recipe out, and you’re unfamiliar with the taste, I’ll usually suggest going with what’s popular over what’s cheapest. This is when shopping at your local liquor stop rather than a grocery store. You can ask the proprietor if you have any doubt, and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.

I don’t know. I’ve done my share of foolish things during my adventures. Imbibing (actual) dirty bong water is not one of them. It’s something I’m proud of.
