Have a fruity and tart tipple this evening with the Gin And Jam cocktail.

All of us adults of a certain age and generation will probably know the cultural significance of a drink like the Gin & Juice. You know, laid back with minds being on money and vice versa. But as the years go on, and our high school days get farther and farther behind us, more quaint and less raucous activities begin to fill our schedule. And if you’re doing things right, your calendar is light.
Tonight’s cocktail sounds like something your grandmother would ask for, but it’s no less potent than a Gin & Juice or the libation it takes its inspiration from, the Gin Sour. In this recipe, you’ll be adding some titular jam, resulting in a fruity—and personalized—sipper.
And by personalized, I mean whatever flavor jam you like, you can use. Our recipe mentions strawberry and raspberry, but there’s an almost endless array of flavors to choose from. It might be overwhelming, actually. What I’ll be doing this upcoming Christmas season is making a few Gin and Jam cocktails by using the little jars of preserves we’ll be getting in our Bonne Maman advent calendar. It is filled with unique as well as classic flavors, perfect for seeing just how flexible this fun concoction can be.
What is the best alcohol to use in a Gin And Jam Cocktail?
I like a balanced and crisp London Dry gin when mixing up any Sour-like cocktail, such as tonight’s recipe. Tanqueray and Beefeater are excellent choices. Both selections aren’t too forward with their juniper notes and other herbaceous infusions, allowing the lemon juice and jam to shine without overpowering your drink’s spirit.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1 heaping barspoon jam strawberry, raspberry, or your favorite flavor
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup optional, for a sweeter drink
- Lemon twist or a berry matching your jam for garnish
Instructions
- Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, your spoonful of jam, and simple syrup (if using) to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

- Shake well and strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a chilled coupe.

- Garnish with a lemon twist. You can also use a berry that matches your jam.

What glassware and garnish are used?
Chill a coupe in your freezer for around 15 to 30 minutes before prepping and pouring your cocktail. Garnish with a twist of lemon or a specific fruit to complement your mixture’s flavor.
Can other spirits be used in this recipe?
Vodka works wonderfully in this cocktail, as it will meld with and take on the flavors of the other ingredients, accentuating them and delivering a smooth and clean-tasting tipple.

Other drinks similar to the Gin And Jam cocktail
I mentioned earlier how tonight’s recipe takes its cue from a classic Gin Sour, but what of the other drinks out there that also utilize said spirit along with a citrusy friend like lemon juice? Twist & Toast can help answer some of those questions by showing you a nice selection of tangy, sweet, and strong sippers you can try out at home with a friend or two.
- Tom Collins – Top your gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup off with club soda over ice to craft this classic.
