Featuring autumnal vibes, the Jubilee cocktail is a fresh and fruity sipper that any drinker will enjoy.

A jubilee, by definition, is a celebration, particularly of an anniversary or other important milestone. I grew up seeing images and footage of the Queen’s Jubilee on television over the years, my favorite moment being when the Sex Pistols were arrested whilst playing a concert on a boat going down the Thames during that year’s celebrations. Punk rock. Tonight’s cocktail isn’t punk rock, nor is it inspired by royalty… although there is a version like that out there.

The Jubilee we’ll be crafting tonight is an autumnal affair, perfect for sipping on the porch during sweater weather as the aroma from a nearby chimney fills the air. This mixture is a balanced libation that is a modern riff on a sour, featuring vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup. But what sets this tipple apart is the addition of pear liqueur and some dry red wine.

A contemporary mélange, the Jubilee drink is the brainchild of New York City bartender Jeremy Oertel. While his original version features a chilled club soda topper and ours has a layered, non-carbonated presentation, any way you make yours will still feature a delicious harvest mood.

What is the best alcohol to use in a Jubilee Cocktail?

Oertel has mentioned that a grain-based vodka is his spirit of choice when whipping up the Jubilee, as it has a subtle sweetness within. I myself prefer this style of vodka as well, often going for a bottle of Chopin to mix with. St. George, Drillaud, and Mathilde produce high-quality pear liqueurs, and all should be available at your local liquor store. And finally, an inexpensive pinot noir should suit your finished cocktail nicely, regarding the red wine.

What glassware and garnish are used?

Shake your ingredients—except for the red wine—and strain over ice into a rocks glass. Pour your wine slowly over the back of a spoon on top, then garnish with a thin pear slice or a twist of lemon.

Should you use maple syrup in this recipe?

Jeremy Oertel’s original recipe calls for the use of maple syrup instead of simple syrup. If you choose to do the same, this will lend your drink a much sweeter and more full-bodied sipping experience.

Similar Drinks To The Jubilee Cocktail

Those chilly months when the leaves begin to change color and the wind begins to bite a little harder, always seem to sneak up on us. We wait all year for the summertime, then before we know it, autumn is already settling in. But the good news is there’s always a drink or two to help usher that cozy time in.

  • Apple Cider Margarita – A summer favorite that features some pre-winter vibes.
  • Stone Fence – Bourbon, bitters, and hard apple cider make a refreshing combination.
  • Washington Apple Cocktail – Tart, sour, and strong is the best way to describe this whiskey and schnapps concoction.
  • Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned – A flavorful spin on a cocktail classic.
