Fresh peaches bring the sweetness in this summer favorite.
The Daiquiri has been around since 1898, according to some cocktail historians. It was supposedly around that time that an American named Jennings Cox came up with the original recipe while living and working in Cuba. Legend says that one night while entertaining guests, Cox ran out of gin. Since rum was plentiful, he used that in his mixed drinks instead, inadvertently creating the classic drink that is still enjoyed today.
Famed author Ernest Hemingway couldn’t resist the charms of the Daiquiri. Known to frequent the El Floridita bar in Havana Cuba during the Prohibition years (for obvious reasons), Papa Hemingway would imbibe his favorite rum, lime and sugar drink. He wasn’t that big of a fan of the sweet flavor, so in the 1930s he crafted his own, nixing the sugar and adding grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur. This recipe, which was dubbed The Hemingway Daiquiri, was so loved by the writer that he would order two at a time. This earned it the nickname Papa Doble.
The Peach Daiquiri is another concoction that is sure to please fans of this historic cocktail. Blending fresh peaches and ice along with rum, lime juice and grenadine, this cold and smooth elixir will help keep your temperature down this summer as the heat rises.
What is the Best Rum to Use in a Peach Daiquiri?
To go with the fruity and juicy taste of fresh puréed peaches, I suggest grabbing a nice bottle of white rum to use in this recipe. Smooth and crisp with tropical notes, and sometimes subtle hints of coconut, a white rum will mix with the other ingredients for a perfectly balanced and refreshing flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe peaches peeled, pitted, and halved
- 2/3 cup white rum
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 2 tablespoons grenadine
- 4 cups ice
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the ripe peaches, white rum, fresh lime juice, and grenadine.
- Blend on high until the mixture is smooth.

- If a thicker consistency is desired, add more ice and blend again until satisfied.

FAQs & Tips
Once your batch is blended and ready to pour, grab some hurricane glasses and a handful of colorful straws to add an extra bit of fun to your drink.
Once your pitcher is blended, you can cover it and stick it in your freezer to keep it stored until you’re ready to serve. Let it thaw for an hour or so in the fridge to soften the mixture up. This can affect the texture of the drink, however, so it is always best to serve these fresh if you’re able to.
At 168 calories, this sweet treat is fairly light, but those numbers can add up fast with a drink this good.
