Give your next cocktail a kick when you shake up the Tajín Margarita.

It was a weekday, and there wasn’t really anything special about it, to be honest. But after a long day working amongst the cute houses and tree-lined streets of Burbank, my buddy and I were ready to wash it away with a libation or two. And here I was thinking about some fruit punch while my friend had other ideas…
We hit the legendary Handy Market, one of my favorite places in Los Angeles, and grabbed a couple of sandwiches along with a nice, big bottle of Camarena silver tequila. About ten minutes later, we were back at my pal’s abode, grabbing their triple sec and limes that were already on hand, ready to whip up some mid-week Margaritas. But then the bottle of Tajín made an appearance on the counter, and my bud started to add the spicy and hot chili-lime seasoning to the mix. With a smirk, I might add.
I don’t usually sip on cocktails that make me sweat, but the zesty flavor from the Tajín swirled in harmony with the tequila and orange-tinged triple sec, making for a unique and unforgettable sipping experience. And the heat on my lips only made me thirsty for a second round.
Sometimes you don’t need a special occasion to have a cocktail. The drink itself can be a reason to celebrate, so cheers.
What is the best alcohol to use in a Tajín Margarita?
We’ll need to grab a couple of bottles of alcohol to mix up this spicy ‘rita, namely tequila and triple sec. Now with the latter, I like to use an elevated orange liqueur like Grand Marnier, which will add a subtle, fruity complexity with each sip, due to the fact that it’s made with cognac. An unaged silver tequila is the preferred option in most Margaritas as the base spirit, since it mixes with the other elements in a balanced, flavorful way. The earthy and agave-forward notes will offer a lovely, peppery bite on the finish, which will only be elevated with the Tajín used here.

Ingredients
- Tajín seasoning and lime wedge for the rim
- 2 ounces silver tequila
- 1 ounce triple sec
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 1/2 ounce agave syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon Tajín seasoning
- Lime wedge to garnish
Instructions
- Cut a lime wedge and rub it around the rim of a rocks glass. Dip the rim into a small plate of Tajín seasoning to coat evenly.

- In a cocktail shaker, combine the silver tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, agave syrup, and Tajín seasoning. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well for about 20 seconds.

- Strain into your prepared glass filled with ice and garnish with a lime wedge. Serve immediately.

What glassware and garnish are used?
Rub the rim of a rocks glass with a lime, then coat it with Tajín. Fill the glass with ice, pour your drink in, then garnish the top with a fresh lime wedge or wheel.
What other spice can be used?
If you don’t have any Tajín handy, some simple chili powder can be used instead, or if you have any other brand of chili-lime seasoning, that will work nicely as well.
