Sweet, bubbly and with a satisfying bite, the Tequila and Ginger Ale offers a light and relaxing way to end your day.

The pilot came bursting into the cantina, covered in dust, oil and countless splattered bugs, resembling a World War I flying ace. Everything came to a standstill as we all turned to see this striking but disheveled figure stride across the dusty floor. Their boots clopped and echoed impressively with each long step, bringing the pilot right up to the center of the bar in no time at all. And yet everything appeared to be moving in slow motion as we watched.
The only noise now came from the barkeep, as the glass they wiped clean squeaked with every twist of their washcloth. The pilot looked evenly across the bar at the proprietor, who looked back while still making squeaky noises. The pilot nodded, knowingly. The bartender nodded back, squeaking their glass a little louder now.
The pilot stared, while the barkeep squeaked. The rest of us began to sweat, despite the cool climate inside the cantina. One old-timer in the corner couldn’t take the awkward suspense, he promptly guzzled the rest of his drink and left, almost hurriedly. For my part, I was mesmerized. The pilot and bartender continued staring each other down, the squeaking almost as loud as a freight train now. Suddenly, it stopped. Utter silence followed.
The pilot spoke. “Tequila and ginger ale. Please.”
The barkeep’s eyes narrowed. “Together? Like a cocktail? Over ice, with lime juice? Like that?”
The pilot’s face widened in pleasant surprise. “Never thought of having it that way, yeah!”
The barkeep shrugged, smiled and got to mixing.
What Is The Best Tequila To Use In A Tequila And Ginger Ale?
I tend to go with a clear, crisp and peppery blanco tequila when mixing up cocktails. Using one in tonight’s drink will add some extra spice and bite to the already robust ginger ale. If you want some vanilla and oaky notes, try using a reposado tequila instead.

CAN YOU MAKE THIS DRINK WITH MEZCAL?
If you’d like a smokier, full-bodied tipple, you can swap out the tequila for mezcal. The aged flavors pair nicely with a ginger ale brand that is specifically designed for cocktails, such as Fever-Tree.
