If the day is dusty and the heat unbearable, give yourself some relief with an ice-cold Tequila Soda.
The Man in the Aloha Shirt fled across the desert, and The Drinkslinger followed.
The Drinkslinger was a desperado of drams, a quickshot with cocktails… and their quarry that they followed over the dry and cracked land had absconded with something of great value… the last case of club soda. The bubbly treasure was still in cold, sweating cans, ready to be added to the strong and spicy tequila that The Drinkslinger valiantly and fairly won in a showdown of shakers.
The townspeople who lived on the dusty edges of the desert, in a tiny hamlet that was just known as Really Thirsty, were now without a carbonated and cold mixer, their stores of tequila too warm to quell their dry throats alone. The ice had taken days to freeze with the ancient technology they used, but it was ready. Unfortunately, the unscrupulous Man in the Aloha Shirt had pulled the old “look behind you, a three-headed monkey” routine on the hapless and gullible Really Thirsty folk, and ran off into the sandy wastes beyond, the soda water in tow.
But The Drinkslinger would not let this stand.
At their hip, in a holster of worn leather, was a heavy fifth of reposado. With the eyes of an eagle and arm of a Major League pitcher, The Drinkslinger spied the fleeing villain from a high and rocky ridge. With the wind blowing in just the right direction, our hero whipped the full bottle of booze through the air, watching it spin and tumble like a golden torpedo. With a satisfying and far away “klonk”, the bottle of reposado connected with the Man in the Aloha Shirt’s head. He fell like a sack of loud potatoes.
The Drinkslinger smirked and began the long walk to the fallen thief, taking their sweet time in relished victory. Once they reached him, the Man in the Aloha shirt was nothing but bones -the sun was very hot, mind you- and our hero recovered the precious cans of bubbly soda. Really Thirsty would have their Tequila Sodas today, and tomorrow as well. The townsfolk cheered and celebrated with cold libations.
And they never saw The Drinkslinger again.

FAQs & Tips
Use a highball glass filled to the top with ice for this beverage, as your ice will keep closer together in the tall receptacle and melt much slower. Garnish with a lime wheel for a little extra citrus flavor.
You cannot make a Tequila Soda or large batches of it to save for later, as the club soda will lose its carbonation and go flat. This cocktail is best when served fresh.
At 135 calories, you can enjoy more than one of these without feeling too heavy.
