Enjoy a sweet burst of refreshing flavor with every sip you take from the Cherry Smash cocktail.

The mirror was an antique and looked older than time itself. At least the large, ornate frame did. Nymphs and dryads were carved into the wood, dancing and writhing along its eight-foot tall height. This was an inherited piece, passed down through the generations, always in the hands of someone in the family. Rumors were whispered that a great-great-great-great-great uncle or aunt had been seduced by the power of magic and cast spells of unknown power upon this mirror.

Now it sat in my Lego room. And as I gawked at the menacing hunk of furniture standing in the corner, with an impossibly smooth and polished surface, I wondered aloud what sorcery my family’s ancient ancestor could have weaved into it.

And then, the mirror literally responded. The disembodied voice echoed throughout my sanctum in a smooth and sumptuous tone. “I know all… Even your heart’s deepest desires.”

Instantly, I asked the most important question I could think of. “What should I have to drink?”

There was a long pause from the mirror. “Really? Ummm… Well, you’re in the mood for a sweet and fruity flavor, and something with bite… Cold and refreshing, smoky with a little fizz…”

Wow, I thought to myself. All of those cravings were gnawing at me, how could it know? Finally, the mirror announced that I wanted a Cherry Smash cocktail. I loved a good Smash, and that bottle of bourbon sitting in the kitchen was just itching to be paired with the fresh cherries I recently got at the farmer’s market.

I ran across the house, sliding into the kitchen, grabbing the muddler, shaker and ingredients. As I prepped myself a tart and potent Cherry Smash, I heard the mirror bellowing Hellooooooo from the other room.

Hopefully it’s not that talkative, or a smash of another kind will be taking place tonight.

What Is The Best Bourbon To Use In A Cherry Smash Cocktail?

When choosing a good bourbon for your drink, just going to the store and grabbing a bottle could be a little daunting, especially considering the number of choices. There are the well-known and classic brands like Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark and Wild Turkey, which are all great and mix nicely in a cocktail. I discovered High West and Bulleit a few years back, which I like very much and have settled on as my go-to spirits whenever I’m in the mood for a smoky, sweet and spicy dram.

FAQs & Tips

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?

Enjoy this cocktail in a rocks glass, filled with ice and garnished with a fresh cherry and a sprig of mint.

CAN YOU STORE THE CHERRY SMASH COCKTAIL?

I personally am not a fan of storing or saving most drinks that utilize muddled ingredients, so I’ll suggest making and serving this one fresh.

IS IT BEST TO DOUBLE STRAIN YOUR COCKTAILS?

For muddled drinks, double straining is a great way to pour yourself the smoothest drink possible, devoid of little chunks of ice or pieces of fruit, mint, etc. This is all down to personal preference though, as some folks enjoy their beverages with these elements.
