This shot is so tough and intense, it had to be named the Chuck Norris.

Growing up during the 1980s was pretty cool. We kids had Atari, then Nintendo, all kinds of awesome Saturday morning cartoons, and the movies… Well, everybody says the films they grew up with are the best, and there’s no debate. But the range of cinema during those years was pretty outrageous, and the entertainment we soak in these days owes so much to that era.

Action movies really came into their own during that decade. You had the bombastic charms of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the explosive stoicism that Sylvester Stallone movies brought to the table. And there were other action heroes, too. I spent a number of sleepovers staying up all night watching the straight-to-video adventures of Tim Thomerson’s Jack Deth, but with ninja and karate movies becoming all the rage, Chuck Norris was also a two-fisted fighter my friends and I thrilled to. My favorite was an Indiana Jones pastiche called Firewalker, and it really showed that not only was Norris a real butt-kicker, but he was pretty funny too.

Tonight’s recipe is called the Chuck Norris Shot, and it is more than an apt name. A kinetic and powerfully tasting mix, the Chuck Norris combines vodka, grenadine and a little hot sauce in a shot glass, which is then dropped into a bigger glass filled with Red Bull. The result is like a roundhouse kick to the face, but a tasty one.

Just don’t try to have too many… You might end up like that episode of Walker, Texas Ranger where the cocktail waitress helps our hero discover why he woke up in a hotel with amnesia.

What Is The Best Vodka To Use In A Chuck Norris Shot?

When dealing with a shot that goes by the name Chuck Norris, you’re certainly not going to be putting any flavored or sweet-tasting spirits in it. Nope, no cupcake vodka in this recipe, thank you very much. That is, unless you want Lone Wolf McQuade to come looking for you. Grab a bottle of crisp and peppery plain vodka to mix with, which will give your Chuck Norris a nice kick.

WHAT GLASSWARE SHOULD BE USED?

You’ll need both a shot glass and a pint glass to enjoy your Chuck Norris. If you’d like, chill them both in your freezer for 15 to 30 minutes before drinking.

CAN THIS BE MADE INTO A FULL-SIZED COCKTAIL?

The Chuck Norris Shot is so tough and hardcore, it already is a full-sized cocktail.
