Have a tart and strong sip with your next brunch when you imbibe a Cranberry Mimosa.

Cranberry Mimosa - twistandtoast

High atop a craggy clifftop sat an impressive, cathedral-like mansion. A winding road climbing ever upward through the clouds was the only way to reach—or leave—this lonely, epic place. A usually empty domicile, this keep, the home of an eccentric and generous count, would always fill up with friends, family, and well-known glitterati whenever the holidays rolled around. Warm light would fill the halls, which were decked with boughs of holly and twinkling lights. But this year, things were a little different…

Every Christmas, the weather would indeed turn icy amongst the tall peaks that surrounded the count’s massive home, and snow was always in the air. But this year, a blizzard had descended almost biblically upon the soirée. No one would be leaving at the end of the evening, as the twisting road was too treacherous to travel on. There were plenty of rooms in the manor, so all were of course welcome.

In the morning, the icy blankets covered the lands around the monolithic mountain mansion under stories of packed white powder. Being an avid skier, the count invited his stranded guests to join him on the piste, but not before they all enjoyed a hearty and satisfying brunch. And to drink? A wonderfully tangy and fizzy Cranberry Mimosa, which flowed like the snow that fell from the sky the night before. These effervescent treats were so tasty and perfect that nobody made it onto the slopes that day.

Except the count, who had journeyed out by himself. And was never to be heard from again…

What is the best alcohol to use in a Cranberry Mimosa?

One of the pleasures of drinking a Cranberry Mimosa is the tart and deliciously eye-opening crispness each sip brings to your taste buds. In order to achieve a balanced beverage, it is recommended that you choose a cost-effective—but not cheap—sparkling wine, prosecco, cava, or champagne to mix with your cranberry juice. An extra-dry brut is an excellent option, as you don’t want a bubbly that will be too sweet, resulting in an overwhelming flavor on the finish.

What glassware and garnish are used?

Fill a champagne flute with your cocktail, then garnish with a fresh sprig of rosemary and a few fresh cranberries as well.

What is the best cranberry juice to use?

100% juice blends, like Ocean Spray, are the finest options to use in your Mimosa. Unsweetened varieties or cranberry juice cocktails aren’t recommended, as they offer an unbalanced robustness or can be too sweet and diluted.
