Haunt your taste buds with the spectrally delicious Drunk Ghost cocktail.

My girlfriend’s apartment, our home, is haunted.
I’ve never been a disbeliever in the paranormal or supernatural, mostly. I’ve kept an open mind, along with having a sense of fun. Everyone has had some kind of “extra” experience that they can’t explain, but usually not the type of activity that you’d see in a Poltergeist movie. What happens where we live is the latter. Here’s just one example…
You’ll be sitting in the living room, watching television or working, when suddenly the sound of exploding glass is heard coming from the kitchen. If you don’t open the cabinet carefully and slowly, the remnants of a shattered glass will come pouring out all over, as if someone had squeezed it with a mighty fist. That happens from time to time. POP. There goes another rocks glass. Don’t get me started on the overhead bathroom light I witnessed get yanked out of the ceiling with such force it exploded… That’s another spooky story for another time.
Tonight’s cocktail is the perfect libation for a haunted home, aptly called the Drunk Ghost. Now, I do know that the ghost here—whose name is Josephine, and lived in the apartment since the 1920s until her death, when my girlfriend moved in—did enjoy a tipple or two. And it seems that the thing she likes to break the most is cocktail glassware.
If I couldn’t enjoy a Drunk Ghost drink and was a phantom myself, I’d probably break a few glasses. At least ours doesn’t leave any ectoplasm on anything. I’ve gotten used to the hauntings, but the slime would be a tad too funky.
What is the best alcohol to use in a Drunk Ghost Cocktail?
A popular “viral” mixture that took off during the 2020s, the Drunk Ghost is a little reminiscent of a Blue Hawaii and Blue Hawaiian, in that it uses both rum and vodka, and cream of coconut with a lemon-lime soda topper. The rum is a coconut spirit, while the vodka is a sweetened affair, being vanilla flavored. The clear liquors and soft drink, when combined with the cream of coconut, result in a pale, ghostly color.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces coconut rum
- 1 ounce vanilla vodka
- 1 ounce coconut cream such as Coco López
- 3 to 4 ounces lemon-lime soda chilled
- Ghost marshmallow for garnish
Instructions
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the coconut rum, vanilla vodka, and coconut cream.

- Shake well until smooth and chilled. Strain into a chilled highball glass.

- Gently top with chilled lemon-lime soda and stir. Garnish with a ghost marshmallow.

What glassware and garnish are used?
You’ll need a highball or collins glass filled with ice, along with a marshmallow ghost on the rim for garnish, to complete the fun and memorable presentation for the Drunk Ghost.
What is the best option for a marshmallow ghost?
While you can always be crafty and carve up your own homemade candy apparitions, Peeps and other brands always sell their own cute, jet-puffed versions every Halloween that you can use for garnish.
