It was out in the middle of the ocean, where I had the greatest kiss of my life.

The sun was disappearing in the west, and the clouds above our cruise ship were being splashed with that lovely orange glow that everyone loves to take pictures of. A third day out at sea on this Carnival voyage had me feeling a little lonely, despite the beautiful views. Traveling on my own, which I enjoy, somehow had me a little down this trip. I had suddenly wished for someone to share the sunset, the waves, the waterslides…

The bartender was adorable. When I walked up to order myself a drink, we caught each other’s eye. Theirs were bright, friendly and reflected the fiery light from the setting sun in them. Maybe I was staring a little too long, but I couldn’t help myself. I was smitten. When it was my turn to order, my flummoxed tongue could barely formulate a cohesive and understandable greeting. “Hi.” That’s all I managed.

Blushing, they smiled back and asked what I was drinking. I’ve ordered hundreds, maybe thousands of drinks before, and suddenly having to choose and make a decision put a panic in me I’ve not felt since that one school year I had accidentally locked myself in an overflowing bathroom. Mustering up my most charming smirk, I coolly replied, “Surprise me.”

They leaned in close, whispering in my ear. Their soft breath made my hair stand on end. “Close your eyes, and I’ll give you a kiss on the lips”, they cooed. I squeezed my peepers shut, so hard in fact that the darkness behind them exploded into orange blobs. Only a moment, which felt like an eternity, had passed. My ears were filled with the laughter and talking from the crowd around me and the steel drums from the band playing near the pool. Goosebumps raised on my arms as a gentle touch caressed my hand. I opened my eyes.

The bartender handed me a hurricane glass, filled with a red and yellow-looking slushy cocktail. “Mango, peach schnapps, white rum… a Kiss On The Lips.” They smirked and winked. I ordered these all night long.

What is the Best Alcohol to Use in a Kiss On The Lips?

When making a beverage like the Kiss On The Lips, a lot of fruitiness is involved in the flavor department. Our recipe calls for a white, or silver, rum along with peach schnapps. This style of spirit will mix and combine with the peach-flavored liqueur, mango and grenadine for a lovely and perfectly balanced tasting cocktail, neither overpowering nor disappearing amongst the overall ambiance.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I did a lot of poking around and couldn’t really find a definitive answer. My guess is that it has something to do with how sipping a spirit or a cocktail is often referred to as “kissing”. Or it’s just a playful and cute name. Maybe a bit of both.
