Sweet, refreshing and peachy, this summertime favorite will keep you cool all year long.
Sangria has had quite the journey. While the versions of this drink that we know and love today really came about in the 15th century, it has much more ancient origins. Going as far back as Roman times, you’ll find the beginnings of this satisfying mixture amongst the denizens who attended the games at the Colosseum. The wine of the time was a little less than smooth, from what I understand, so the Romans would mix it with water, fruit and other spices to make it go down a little easier.
Cut to Spain in the 1400s, which is around the time a more recognizable version of sangria came about. It even got its name from the word sangre, which means ‘blood’, referencing the drink’s red color. It exploded in popularity around the 18th and 19th centuries, and as Spanish colonialism continued, the recipe was brought with them around the world.
In the United States, sangria was featured at the New York World’s Fair in 1964 and left as a bona fide hit, becoming popular and trendy all over the country. Since then, it has been a staple of summer pool parties, date nights at tapas bars and relaxing afternoons on the porch swing.
Peach Sangria is a sweet and decadent-tasting variation of this versatile drink. All you need is a chilled white wine, peach liqueur as well as juice, peach slices and club soda. Simple. Just get your loved ones together and share a pitcher with them this weekend. Sometimes the only occasion you need is no occasion at all.
What is the Best wine to Use to Make a Peach Sangria?
Our recipe suggests using a bottle of Pinot Grigio in your Peach Sangria. This wine is dry and light, featuring notes of citrus and other fruits, depending on which brand you have. I like the subtle spikey finish that Pinot Grigio has, and it mixes perfectly with the peach flavors and club soda.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle white wine 750 mL, such as Pinot Grigio, chilled
- 1/2 cup peach liqueur
- 1 cup peach juice
- 3 medium peaches sliced
- 1 cup club soda chilled
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, combine the chilled white wine, peach liqueur, and peach juice.
- Add the sliced peaches to the pitcher and gently stir to combine all the ingredients.
- Refrigerate the sangria mixture to chill and allow the flavors to meld, ideally for at least 1 hour.
- Just before serving, gently stir in the club soda to add a light fizz to the sangria.
- Serve the peach sangria over ice in wine glasses or large goblets.

FAQs & Tips
You can use wine glasses, champagne goblets or rocks glasses when you serve your Peach Sangria. Garnish every glass with a peach slice for a little cute presentation.
Store every ingredient, except the club soda, in a pitcher and cover in your fridge for about a day. Any longer and the fruit infusion will become too intense and sweet. When you’re ready to serve, add the soda.

Brandy is often added to this recipe, and if you like you can also throw in other fruits as well. Whatever you prefer, it is totally up to you. I will say, however, that this recipe is already pretty perfect and delectable, so definitely try it first before you experiment.
