Sipping on the floral and fresh Pear Martini is a great way to spend a hot day.

It was nearly closing time at the bar I stumbled into, and I should’ve been heading back home, but one drink was needed. The storm raged all day, jamming up traffic in the center of the city, and when the hail began to fall, some pieces as large as a basketball, pandemonium nearly broke out. With everyone running back and forth, and more than one fender-bender happening, it seemed that getting off the streets and somewhere tucked away was a halfway decent idea.

I hunkered down in a doorway, watching the sky disappear in a massive storm cloud, squinting against the rain and large chunks of ice as they fell. Finally, after hours and hours, it was over. The streets were empty though, and instead of continuing on my way, I needed a cocktail and had to find a bar. After a few blocks, I did.

Once inside, I sat on a stool and ordered a pair of martinis, mumbling a little as I scratched my chin. The barkeep came back with one tall martini glass, filled with a cloudy liquid. Confused, I asked the bartender what they had given me.

“A Pear Martini, just like you ordered.”

I didn’t argue, realizing what had happened. Instead, I sipped. Then I sipped again, and again until this crisp and fruity fresh tipple was gone. With a nod, I pointed at my empty glass, signaling for another.

In the end, I did end up with a pair.

What Is The Best Vodka To Use In A Pear Martini?

Our recipe calls for a pear vodka to be paired with the elderflower liqueur used in this drink. St-Germain is my go-to for the liqueur, and while I usually opt for a plain and unflavored rye-distilled vodka, tonight’s drink works very well with a little extra fruit flavor. Absolut, Smirnoff and Grey Goose each produce wonderfully fine and balanced pear-infused spirits, and any of them will make your Pear Martini an unforgettable one.

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?

For an extra crisp and cold sip, you’ll want to chill your martini glass in the freezer for up to 30 minutes before serving. Once poured, garnish with a thin slice of pear.

CAN YOU MAKE THIS COCKTAIL WITH GIN?

Yes! Swap the vodka, or add to it with some London Dry or another variety of gin, like Old Tom, which is sweeter.
