Have some fun with your friends by sharing these colorful Rainbow Shots.

It had never happened like this before. Everything was just so wild and vibrant looking that I could scarcely believe my eyes. I even looked the other way, rubbed my peepers hard, blinking them a dozen times over before turning back to the unbelievable sight. Blasting out of the clouds and landing on the ground before me was a colorful, bright and glowing rainbow.
And sliding down this rainbow was—if you could believe it—a little person. What my grandfather would’ve referred to as a leprechaun. As the jaunty fellow gracefully hopped off the multicolored slide, I quickly and silently approached from behind, cornering and towering over the mythic creature.
“Alright”, I yelled. “I’ve got you now, and you have to grant me a wish.”
The leprechaun nodded, not appearing to be worried or surprised in any way. “Sure”, they replied. “But first, aren’t you feeling thirsty? It’s a tad warm out, and a little nip should relax your bones, yes? Dontcha wish you had a shot of something?”
Couldn’t argue with that. “I do wish I had a shot of something,” I stupidly said out loud.
And as I blinked, the leprechaun and rainbow disappeared, leaving me alone and holding a shot glass in my hand. The liquid within looked like a rainbow, and tasted of vodka, pineapple, and grenadine.
I may have been tricked out of a pot of gold, but the mischievous little scamp made good on getting me a drink.
What is the best alcohol to use in Rainbow Shots?
Depending on what you’re in the mood for, or what your preference is regarding spirits, you can craft these shots using either a white rum or an unflavored, plain vodka. Before making your shots, however, you’ll need the bitter citrus taste and color from some blue curaçao to blend and mix with your rum or vodka.

Ingredients
- 1/2 ounce grenadine
- 1/2 ounce pineapple juice
- 1/2 ounce vodka or a light rum mixed with 2 drops of blue curaçao
Instructions
- Start with 1/2 ounce of grenadine poured directly into the bottom of the shot glass.

- Very slowly pour the pineapple juice over the back of a barspoon to create a distinct layer.

- Even more slowly than before, pour the blue vodka or rum mixture over the back of the spoon to make the final layer.

What glassware is used?
Take some standard shot glasses and pop them in your freezer for up to 30 minutes before prepping and serving. This will give each shot an extra cold and smooth texture, but is also completely optional.
What is the best grenadine to use?
Rose’s grenadine is the most well-known brand, and is probably the easiest to find when you’re out shopping. But if you’re curious about what else is available, there are products out there from Monin, Torani and Finest Call, to name a few.

Other shots worth trying
When it’s party time, special occasion or not, shots are often the easiest and best way to get your guests “loosey goosey”, if I may be informal. But simply pouring spirits into little glasses may not impress everybody, and if you enjoy giving all a memorable night, then try your hand at crafting some of these colorful shooters.

- Scooby Snack Shot – Here’s a tiny tipple that’s fruity, creamy and fun.

- Pickleback Shot – A popular combination of whiskey and pickle juice. You have to try it at least once.
