Tart, tangy and sweet, the Texas Lemonade will keep you and your friends cool on a hot summer day.

Being an Army Brat, I’m able to look back on a pretty interesting life. Growing up, I didn’t have a hometown. Every few years, we had to move because the Army sent my dad to a new post. That’s how it worked, at least in my experience. I’ve had friends whose parents were Navy, Air Force… All of them seemed to be able to stick around at most stations for an extended period of time, but we always had to leave. And as a result, my siblings and I were always the new faces at school. It was fun until it wasn’t.
But anybody who’s had to endure the pain of adolescence and being a kid went through similar turmoil, I’m sure. Childhood isn’t easy, especially when you’re a stranger. One of the longest places we lived was Texas, and I have fond memories of those big skies and epic horizons. We had a pool in the backyard, and plenty of space for us and our dog to run around. My father would throw barbeques for his soldiers, and those weekends were always epic.
Tonight’s cocktail is called the Texas Lemonade, a potent and thirst-quenching mixture. Comprised of vodka, lemon and lime juice that’s then finished with a citrus-flavored soft drink, this tipple satisfies whatever craving you may be having while under the hot sun. You can be by the pool, on the beach, or even loafing in a luxurious cabana, and this beverage would be the only companion you’d need.
What Is The Best Vodka To Use In A Texas Lemonade?
So, you’d like to make some Texas Lemonades for you and your friends. You’ve got the lemon and lime juice, and you’ve got an ice-cold 7UP in the fridge, waiting to be added to a swingin’ adult beverage. Now all you need is the vodka. And since our recipe tonight takes its inspiration from the Lone Star State, why don’t we grab a bottle of Tito’s corn-distilled vodka to make our cocktails with? A Texas-made spirit, Tito’s is a little sweeter due to the corn, and mixes beautifully with the lemon and lime ingredients.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- Juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 cup lemon-lime soda 7UP works well
- Lemon or lime slices for garnish
Instructions
- Pour the vodka, fresh lemon juice, and juice of 1/2 lime into a 16-ounce glass. Stir gently to mix the flavors.

- Fill the glass with ice cubes and top off with lemon-lime soda.

- Stir gently, garnish with a lemon or lime slice and serve immediately.

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?
Fill a highball glass with ice, and once your drink is poured in, pop a lemon or lime wheel on top for garnish.
WHAT IS THE BEST LEMON-LIME SODA TO USE?
It all depends on what you like and what’s also easy to get a hold of. 7UP and Sprite are the most popular, but I’ve made a few Texas Lemonades with a Fever-Tree Sicilian Lemonade, which is a sparkling lemon citrus mixer.
