Your festive vibes will grow three sizes after sipping on the bubbly and sweet Grinch Mimosa.

It’s that weirdly blissful time between Christmas and New Year’s Day, when there’s absolutely nothing going on, and just like the memes say, most of us are confused, tired, and full of cheese. The whole house is scattered with all the new toys the kids got from Santa and generous relatives, while empty boxes are strewn everywhere and remnants of wrapping paper mysteriously float about in odd places. Movies we’ve seen a million times play on a continuous loop, and the only remedy the grown-ups reach for to stave off this time displacement is a steady stream of cocktails.
One blustery, post- and pre-holiday morning, there was the usual lazing about, and the children decided that a slew of Dr. Seuss cartoons were the order of the day, particularly everything that had to do with the Grinch, that green, fuzzy, and grumpy mountain-dwelling ne’er-do-well. There’s the original cartoon, the live-action remake, another cartoon but feature-length… it was a fair amount of Grinchy goodness, but for the parents, grandparents, and uncles, it started to turn us a little green. Once again, an adult beverage would come to the rescue.
Like the Grinch himself, sledding down the craggy slopes toward Whoville, tonight’s fizzy concoction flies to the rescue in a tall and long-stemmed glass, with a strawberry heart three sizes bigger than any sourpuss could imagine. And like the Grinch, this delicious holiday beverage bears his name, the Grinch Mimosa. Green, fizzy, and always in a great mood, this drink will make that fourth and fifth hour of movie watching a little more enjoyable.
What is the best alcohol to use in a Grinch Mimosa?
I’m sure you have a bevy of bottles of cava, prosecco, and champagne still in your wine rack, ready for more holiday festivities. Grab some extra dry brut or blanc de blancs to mix this Mimosa with, as it won’t be too sweet on the finish, resulting in a balanced cocktail. Some blue curaçao will add an extra-citrusy zip to the orange juice, as well as turn the mixture a suitable emerald color.

Ingredients
- 1 strawberry for garnish
- Red sanding sugar and a lime wedge for the rim
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 1/2 ounce blue curaçao
- 4 ounces champagne, prosecco, or cava chilled
Instructions
- Slice a hulled strawberry in half and cut a small "V" notch at the top to exaggerate the heart shape. Add a small slit at the bottom tip to slide the berry onto the rim of the glass.
- Pour the red sanding sugar onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your champagne flute, then dip the rim into the sugar until coated.

- Pour the chilled orange juice and blue curaçao into the flute. Stir with a barspoon to turn the mixture a bright green.

- Tilt the glass slightly and slowly top with the sparkling wine.

- Slide your strawberry heart onto the rim to finish the look.

What glassware and garnish are used?
After rubbing the rim of a long-stemmed flute with a lime and coating it with red-colored sugar, pour your Mimosa in and garnish the rim with a heart-shaped, hulled strawberry.
What is the best orange juice to use?
A pulp-free orange juice of your choice is the best option. If you have the pulpy kind, strain it as you pour into your glass.
