Smooth, sweet, and strong, the Pink Panties cocktail is the perfect treat after a hot and sweaty day.

When I’m not wrestling with the blank page, either through script work or these fun cocktail pieces, I will often moonlight as an actor. Many aspiring thespians dream of starring roles, either on the stage or the silver screen. Fantasies of getting that Marvel superhero role, or a walk-on in a Scorsese classic, fill many an artist’s head. But most of us out here in Los Angeles just want to work. And those gigs can vary in how flattering they can be.
Some years back, I was cast in a movie titled Mope. It was a true story about an incident that happened out here sometime in the mid-2000s, and focused on the uh… well, it focused on the more adult side of the entertainment industry. It was a great script, and the producers offered me the role of Johnnie Panties without an audition, which doesn’t happen that often unless you’re already a big star. The character’s name intrigued me, and I soon discovered why he was called that.
Yes, so far, my claim to fame is playing a blue movie performer who spends the entire running time of this film wearing pink panties on his head. There’s no explanation as to why, and apparently, he was based on a real person who thought that look was cool. Well, it is a look to be sure. Cool? As someone who wore ladies’ underwear on his head for the entire shoot, I can tell you that’s debatable.
What is very cool is tonight’s drink, the aptly named Pink Panties. A creamy, fruity, and very potent concoction that’s mixed up with ice cream, this is a recipe for an adult beverage that doesn’t require any undergarments to be worn as a hat. Unless you’ve had a few too many.
What is the best alcohol to use in a Pink Panties Drink?
Our recipe suggests using vodka or gin as the base spirit, and which one you’ll want to use is up to your personal tastes and mood. Personally, I prefer gin to vodka when it comes to sipping on a libation, but for the Pink Panties, I’m going to lean more toward using an unflavored vodka. While it won’t disappear entirely amongst the other flavors of the mixture, it won’t cut through or overpower them either. The result is a much more balanced-tasting drink than if you went with the herbaceous and juniper-forward gin. But for some palates, those extra elements play nicely on the taste buds.

Ingredients
- 1 cup vodka or gin
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 2 cups ice
- 4 fresh strawberries for garnish
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients in a blender.

- Begin with a few short pulses to break up the frozen fruit and ice chunks. Once broken down, blend on high speed until smooth.

- Divide into chilled margarita glasses. Garnish immediately with a fresh strawberry and serve with a straw.

What glassware and garnish are used?
A big drink with a fruity, sweet taste requires a glass to match, so pour your Pink Panties into a large, chilled margarita goblet, then garnish the rim with a fresh, plump strawberry. You can pop a few fun-looking straws in there as well.
What is the best ice cream to use?
For an even taste, vanilla ice cream is the best way to go, but if you’re craving a more strawberry-centric experience, some strawberry ice cream will add extra berry-flavored sweetness to every sip.
