Enjoy a frozen and sparkling treat on a hot summer’s day with a refreshing Frosé.

Tonight’s cocktail is a simple, delicious, and relatively new concoction in the world of alcoholic beverages. The Frosé takes its name from what it is made from, a frozen rosé wine blended into and served as a slushie-like treat. While there are a plethora of cocktails and other refreshing, boozy sippers one can relax with poolside during the hot and sweaty months of summer, the Frosé is a mélange you’ll be adding to your regular beverage rotation each year. Especially when you have company over.

Originally created in 2016 at Bar Primi in New York City, the Frosé became such a popular item on their menu that other bars and restaurants began to serve their own versions. Now the Frosé can be found just about anywhere, and it seems as though it is here to stay, too.

The first version of the beverage at Bar Primi was made using a Sicilian rosé wine, rosato vermouth, and strawberry purée, which you can still order if you ever find yourself there on a visit to the Big Apple. But one of the best things about tonight’s recipe is how flexible it can be, and how many different versions can exist because of it.

What is the best alcohol to use in a Frosé?

The only alcohol that our recipe will require is a pink, fruity, and sweet rosé. The floral and light-tasting notes that this wine provides lend themselves nicely to the frozen concoction, and are complemented beautifully by the strawberries, lemon juice, and simple syrup. The original Bar Primi version incorporated a rosé-infused rosato vermouth, which brings with it a more bittersweet and spiced profile.

What glassware and garnish are used?

Pour your finished frozen beverage into a long-stemmed wine glass. Hold onto the stem to ensure your fingers don’t warm up your drink too quickly as you sip, and garnish the rim of your glass with a fresh slice of strawberry.

Can other spirits be added to this recipe?

Yes, in fact, many popular versions of this recipe will add vodka to give theirs a little extra kick.

Other drinks similar to the Frosé

Tonight’s cocktail isn’t the only mixed drink to add some wonderful wine to the proceedings. Just check out a few of these beautiful, desirable, and delectable potions this side of the fanciest yacht club. And the best part is, you can make them at home. Unless you already live at the yacht club.

  • Sparkling Rosé Margarita – Add a little fizz to the classic summertime tipple.
  • Bicicletta – A white wine sparkler that will perk you up after a long day.
  • Prosecco Sorbet – Have a frozen, dessert-like, and bubbly reward for a job well done.
  • Sweet July Rosé Sangria – Another unforgettable recipe that features the lighter charms of rosé.
