Have a few boozy versions of one of your favorite Girl Scout cookies with the Dirty Girl Scout Shooter.

The man was large, bearded and burly, standing a good two feet over me. The towering bear of a guy had a stone face, with an expression that seemed as though only a chainsaw could change it. I entered the plain, non-descript room and was met by this large, imposing figure. Wearing a Girl Scout uniform.

The bearded Scout motioned for me to sit in the only chair in the space. Metal, cold and uncomfortable, I could feel the icy touch of the seat as I parked myself on it bleed through my linen slacks. It hadn’t been a full minute, but already I was shivering.

My large and intimidating host sneered at me, speaking in a rotund, basso profundo voice that echoed off of the bare walls. “I’m gonna give you a Dirty Girl Scout”.

My eyes widened and despite the chill, a bead of sweat began to roll down my temple. What did he mean? Was he referencing an exercise technique, or was I in store for something unrepeatable? Perhaps he was the Dirty Girl Scout he spoke of, even though he was clearly way too old to be selling cookies. Before I could answer, or ask what he meant, I was handed a small glass, filled with a greenish, milky-looking substance. The Scout intoned once more. “Drink it”.

He wasn’t asking. I gulped the mystery liquid in one giant swallow… and was pleasantly and thankfully surprised. Minty, sweet and with a little bite, what I had drunk reminded me of a certain cookie that was both minty, chocolatey and thin…

Before I could ask for another I was quickly ushered out, with a door slamming shut behind me. These cocktail pop-ups are getting weird. Next time, I’ll just go to the bar.

What Is Crème De Menthe?

Crème de menthe is a liqueur that’s both minty and sweet. Produced in either green or white-colored varieties, with both tasting the same while their differences are aesthetic. Made with grain alcohol and Corsican mint or peppermint, the liqueur is a popular element in cocktails like the Stinger and the Grasshopper. Famous brands include Bols, DeKuyper and Giffard.

What Is The Best Alcohol To Use In A Dirty Girl Scout Shooter?

Once you’ve chosen your crème, you’ll need to grab some vodka and Irish cream as well. Baileys, Carolans and—my new favorite—Five Farms are all excellent choices, and whichever you decide on will boil down to your personal preferences. For the vodka, I’d recommend a plain and unflavored option, which will let the minty and creamy notes from the other two ingredients meld in a wonderfully balanced fashion.

WHAT GLASSWARE AND GARNISH ARE USED?

Chill some shot glasses in your freezer before pouring your Dirty Girl Scout Shooters. This will give your shots an extra smooth and cold texture. Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint for a fun presentation.

WHAT MAKES THIS SHOT SO “DIRTY”?

Well, the flavor is reminiscent of a Thin Mint cookie, a very popular snack that the Girl Scouts of America sell to a thankful populace every year. The fact that this recipe is alcoholic, and strictly for adults, is more than likely where the “dirty” moniker comes from.

Other Shot Recipes Worth Trying

Shooters don’t always have to be a simple pour of a spirit that’s slammed in one gulp. Many of the shots, like tonight’s, are mixed and prepared like a full-sized cocktail, and some even come in a carefully layered presentation. If you’re in the mood for even more creamy and smooth little alcoholic beverages, try out some of these the next time your friends are over.

  • Oatmeal Cookie Shot – Enjoy another cookie-inspired mini tipple.
  • Scooby Snack – Creamy, dreamy and tropical, this shot will have you exclaiming “zoinks”, it’s that good.
  • Chocolate Cake Shot – Tastes just like a mouthful of moist, delicious chocolate cake.
  • Duck Fart – A layered and smooth mixture of whiskey, coffee liqueur and Irish cream.
